Here is your Wednesday morning weather update: Heavy rain leading to flash flooding will be possible with showers and storms today into this evening. Most of our region hasn't had a chance to dry out from the heavy rain we had last week, so it may not take as much rain today to cause flash flooding. Also, any storms that develop today are going to be very slow moving, increasing the risk for flash flooding.

The areas of greatest concern are in a flash flood watch through late this evening.

If you have outdoor or travel plans today, please keep an eye on the weather, and if you encounter any flooded roads, turn around and find another way to reach your destination.

Middletown Fire Company No. 1

Last night crews from Middletown and Media Fire Hook and Ladder #1 - Station 23. Spent the night drilling and going over Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) operations and gear. Crews started with review of Media's apparatus and RIT gear as well as the RIT pack off of Quint 50. Crews finished the night performing multiple carries and drags utilizing Media's Fast board as well as converting our airpacks into harnesses.

Middletown Fire Company No. 1

Friday night, the county was again bombarded by heavy rains, wind and lighting. Flooding began almost instantly sending Middletown Fire co to around 15 calls. Calls to assist the public, power lines down and numerous water rescues and stranded vehicles were handled by over 20 volunteers in just 6 hours. Middletown Fire co maintains numerous trained water rescue technicians and carries specialized equipment. Station 50 answered the calls and successfully rescued 6 people in total Friday night, including an assist to Chester Heights Fire Co, where the team rescued an occupant who was clinging to the back of his pick up truck in raging waters.

Middletown worked with crews from numerous stations on different calls throughout the night, including Chester Heights Fire co - 71, Aston Township Fire Dept -17, Brookhaven Fire co - 52, Engine 33 from Collingdale and Ladder 43 from Ridley Township who were transferred across the county for hours to cover our sister company Rocky Run Fire co -46 while they assisted in Edgemont Township on a 2 Alarm house fire. Many companies were stretched thin in western Delaware county.

We remind everyone again, do not drive through flooded road ways. TURN AROUND! DON’T DROWN! We are likely not finished with heavy rains this summer.

While driving around this week, be mindful that there are some areas that have experienced severe washout from the storm. Watch for debris and mud on the roads. ... See MoreSee Less
